CGC Thematic Inquiry: Oversight of External Experts

The Code Governance Committee (CGC) has launched a thematic inquiry. This inquiry considers how general insurers onboard and monitor External Experts that provide an opinion about the likely cause of the loss or damage in relation to a home insurance claim. An external expert could be a builder, roofer, hydrologist or some other tradesperson whose expertise is relevant for assessing the nature of the loss or damage on an insured property.

A request for information has been distributed to the six code subscribers who have been selected to take part in this inquiry.

The CGC will publish its findings in a report, with insights and learnings for the industry and recommendations for improvements to promote better practice. The CGC expects to publish a report in the third quarter of 2024.
